The Thorn
Bush
Barb I: Strike
Why look for proof when
hearsay will suffice?
Don’t question decisions; one should never think twice.
In political matters there should only be acts,
Uncluttered by evidence, substance, or facts.
Ignore what the world may still have to say
And do what you were going to do anyway.
Disarmament, hell; it’s
the oil you want,
Although you’re afraid to just say it up front.
This danger (supposed) is no imminent threat;
More importantly so is the national debt.
Deficit spending is taking its toll,
So let’s go to war, now that we’re on a roll!
“More than 35 countries
give crucial support;”
Well now; let us think of a witty retort.
There are millions of people opposed to this war
In the U.S.
and Britain
alone; maybe more:
But pay no attention to them, Mr. B!
They don’t matter at all; you’re in charge now, we see.
Two decade-old war resolutions
you name
Which justify action at this stage, you claim.
Never mind that the Russians don’t like that at all;
The problem with them is, they’re thinking too small.
They can’t see the danger this dictator poses,
With aluminum tubes right there under their noses.
Civilian casualties won’t
be too bad;
If your home is destroyed, just be happy, not sad,
For Americans come to make your life grand
And save you from life eating nothing but sand;
Liberation’s the buzzword for this little war!
(Tell that to the little kids smothered in gore.)
Let us talk liberty from
oppression and pain;
The sort we helped Cuba
to wrestle from Spain;
We’re here to impose democratic solution;
Let’s fix Iraq
up with a new Constitution!
We’ll set up new leaders and judges and things,
And no-one will know that we’re pulling the strings.
For we come to your country
with nought but respect
For its citizens (who we hope all will defect)
We have no ambition here, not in the least;
There’s nothing we’re out to get from the Near East.
We’re just going to use all your oil, you see,
To pay for the war, and the prez’ SUV.
No outcome but victory!
That is our cry,
Never look back! On and on! Do or die!
We’ll bring freedom to others, and we will prevail,
Since there’s no chance at all of us ending in jail,
Since we don’t acknowledge the ICC’s law;
No-one will enforce it on us. Ha-ha-haw!
So on to Baghdad!
We have right on our side!
‘Cause Saddam is a meanie! He’s cheated and lied,
And he’s planning to blow up the world, we know
(Though there’s no evidence that we’re willing to show).
We’re relying on duct tape for homeland defense;
We’re at war now—and wartime has never made sense.
